Eskrima

Eskrima describes the martial arts of the fillipines (FMA), where they practise blunt and bladed weapons to one of the most effective levels, commonly using sticks Eskrima will salo teach a wide variety of weapon offense and defense including daggers. Whilst best known as Eskrima it is also commonly reffered to as Arnis de Mano (harness of the hand) and Kali.

There are many varieties of Eskrima to learn, almost all of which include some form of grappling, Jujutsu and Judo techniques, throws, wrist locks, hand strikes and low level kicking such as Doce Pares or Balintawak.

Eskrima practiced at a club is fun, good for fitness and especially when you're suited up hurling stick strikes at your opponent it can be a blast and there are international and national tournaments held all over the world.

In the Fillipines, it is a common occurence to be mugged by knife or weapon, and this Filipino martial art has been developed as a means to survive, even today in the Filipines it can be dangerous to walk the streets, so alot of people learn stick fighting as a means of self defense.
