Jeet Kune Do
Jeet Kune Do (JKD) or Jeet Kun Do translated from Cantonese means “The way of the intercepting fist” and is one of the newest martial arts styles which was founded by the legendary Bruce Lee in 1967 developed from his combat philosophy after years of researching and studying various martial arts.
Bruce Lee studied Wing Chun Kung Fu for roughly 14 years of his life and there are strong fundamentals from this found in Jeet Kune Do, however it also uses techniques from several martial arts and is designed to supersede other styles. The principal philosophy in Jeet Kune Do, is that you should be yourself and express yourself through martial arts, due to this originally Jeet Kune Do did not include forms and belts, and it is practiced to your own ability, using the techniques that best fit your own style.
Bruce Lee also developed Jeet Kune Do with the principal of striking first, using your longest weapon verses your opponents shortest, if an attacker comes in with a punch your first technique would be to kick them, to affect their balance - move in the disable them. For many reasons Jeet Kune do is a very popular style of martial art to study worldwide.
