Judo
Judo, which is translated as "the gentle way" is an ancient martial arts style similar to Jui Jitsu and originated from the ancient martial arts of war torn Japan. In 1882 Dr Jigoro Kano founded the system as a refinement of Jujutsu and other Japanese martial arts incorporating the most effective techniques.
Judo can be practiced for many reasons including, health, fitness, self-discipline and competition and in 1964 Judo became an Olympic sport.
Judo is renowned for its throwing techniques but also involves ground techniques such as grappling, submission holds, arm locks, and choking techniques. Since Judo is well balanced with ground and standing combat it is a popular martial arts style to learn.
