Wii Fit for martial arts

A hot topic in the world of Nintendo fans and martial artists’ minds alike is a martial arts game for Wii that works with the Wii Fit Balance board.

At this stage there are still only rumours and speculation which suggests EA or Nintendo plan to release a martial arts game for the Wii.

It might sound a bit odd at first and in fact it might be the only example as of this time where playing a video game can help your martial arts training, even thinking about using a Nintendo game to actually aid your martial arts training sounds a bit absurd - but surprisingly the Wii Balance board has some rather interesting benefits for a martial arts enthusiast.

The COG (Center of Gravity)

After some extensive research of various martial arts styles i did not manage to find a martial arts style that didn't at least in principal, utilize their own center of gravity, in fact, quite a number of martial arts styles put a great emphasis on finding and maintaining ones COG, usually these are more internal styles, such as Wing Chun, Paqua or Tai Chi, and other styles such as Aikido and Hapkido which focus strongly on using an opponents center of gravity against them.

Ok... so where does the Wii Balance board fit in?

The Wii Balance board that comes with Wii fit is hugely dedicated to improving body posture through correct alignment of your Center of Gravity... you can visually see where your center of gravity is as you stand on it, and over time, by having such a clear visual representation of where it is, become very familiar with it.

Wii Fit, finding your COG faster than your master

I know finding your Center of Gravity in some martial arts can take years, and there's a reasonable chance having this technology could speed up the process to some degree. Not only that, the Wii Fit program encompasses Yoga, Strength,Cardio and Balance training, all of which are very fun, so it really can only aid your martial arts training.
